The BBC signed a Preferred Supplier Agreement back in 2003 for the VCN to deliver Voice Training to their re-speakers. Their job is to re-speak the news during each and every day so that it reappears as sub-titles for those who are deaf. It is critical that the re-speakers speak clearly and consistently throughout their 8 hour shift with only limited breaks.
The VCN successfully delivered to about 10 locations around the country from London, Bristol, Birmingham to as far North as Glasgow during 2003 to 2006.
More recently, the BBC has closed many of their regional centres and many of the re-speakers have continued to do their work from home. THE VCN has been called in to train them at home, as the risks they run to the voices are the same wherever they are. Thank you to Susan Stern, Val Morton, Angela Devaney, Hilary Beckett, Emma Brown, Jo Eliot, Sue Evans, Phyllida Furse, Julie McLean, Maggie Mash, Mary Shand and Ros Steen.
The VCN are now providing the BBC “Home Service”!!
