VCN is a learning and teaching organisation, generating and sharing knowledge within our membership and disseminiating and sharing knowledge with professional voice user groups and other interested external organisations and individuals.
We are unique professional organisation bringing together two disciplines, speech and language therapy and voice coaching.
VCN, and its members, learn from each other, adapt to change, keep up with developments and issues in relevant research and provide specification publications and regular newsletters. VCN has been delivering specialist voice workshops for over 10 years to professional occupational voice user groups, and organisations and individuals within Education, Call Centres, Healthcare, the Media and the Professions.
Our Voice Workshops are recognised by the Training and Development Agency for Teachers (TDA) and we have long term, exclusive, training provider contracts with the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP) (Call Centres) and the BBC.
Members who are SLTs are members of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and registered with the Health Professionals Council. Most work in the NHS and private healthcare sector clinics, as well as independently.
Members who are Voice Teachers have wide experience in developing the speaking voice for professional voice users eg teachers, speakers, performers, trainers, preachers and lawyers. Indeed, all people who depend upon their voice for effective oral communication. Many of our members trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama (CSSD) and the London Academy of Music and Drama (LAMDA).
We are delighted to include international members and anybody who has an interest in the speaking voice.
VCN was created in 1993 by our Founder Roz Comins and became a Charity in 1998. Our Patron is Cicely Berry O.B.E, Hon D.Litt Director of Voice, Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
