As a new member I was made very welcome. Everyone I met was supportive and willing to share their experiences. I am looking forward to attending Voice Workshops, ½ day or 1 day, specifically aimed at teachers of children and young adults. This would be helpful to me in my role as Speech and Drama teacher in Prep and Senior departments of a girl’s school.
I have obviously learnt a lot on the job and have used some resources recommended by colleagues and the LAMDA board; but news on correct methods change and it is good to keep up to date with current thinking on teaching methods, particularly with young children, as there is nothing as yet produced by the LAMDA examinations/publications department apart from their Discussion book. Public Speaking is also an area where useful books are needed to support teachers in schools.
I particularly enjoyed the movement and voice session by Pete Baillie and the ‘Voice and Text’ session by Gary Owston which will be of practical help teaching more advanced students. I thought the accommodation facilities were excellent. Wills Hall is so pleasantly situated and the room was comfortable and clean. The food was wonderful! I also enjoyed the experience of going to Bath and watching a production in such a lovely old theatre. I was really grateful for the copy of ‘Speak 2 Learn’ by Lesley Hendy, which I know I will use with my younger ones and I have already ordered 2 more from Head Office for a very grateful Pre head!
All in all, an interesting and enjoyable weekend.
